Child Orphanage
India has 29.6 million orphaned and abandoned children, according to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) report. According to research conducted by SOS Children’s Village in 2011, abandoned children account for 4% of India’s kid population. However, according to alarming numbers released by the Childline India Foundation (CIF), which is backed by the ministry of women and child development, just 470,000 of these 30 million children (which is most certainly an under-reported figure) were in institutionalised care in 2017.
We at SEPP world foundation have witnessed that the reason for the low level of adoption in India is because the ratio of abandoned children in institutionalised care is way less, which is the reason the adoption ratio is well below the thresholds.
Program Roadmap
- Setting up Village Child Protection Committees to establish and enhance community-level bodies that make choices about children's care (VCPCs). VCPCs are village-based organisations made up of service providers, community leaders, and families that detect, prepare, and respond to child protection threats in their communities.
- Support local governments and partners in formulating a child protection plan that includes preventing child separation and institutionalisation while taking into account the socioeconomic consequences of Covid-19.
- In partnership with local district child protection professionals, promote family strengthening for at-risk families.
- Adapt our programming to give virtual monitoring, food, and monetary help to children and families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Solution
- Supporting and protecting 10,000 children with the help of Village Child Protection Committees and Urban Local Bodies.
- Establishing connections with different national and state authorities so as to ensure that the initiatives reach the targeted beneficiaries.
