Women Self Help Groups
The SHG movement in India has grown from modest savings and credit organisations aimed at empowering poor rural women to one of the world's largest institutional platforms for the underprivileged. Today, 6 million SHGs serve 67 million Indian women.
While more women are carving out a place in such businesses, there are still a few obstacles to overcome. We discovered that certain SHGs, despite their extent and capabilities, are unable to grow into full-fledged organisations. Hence, we at SEPP World Foundation have come together to develop a roadmap through which more SHGs can thrive in India.
Program Roadmap
- Coordinating with RRBs and NABARD to support SHG’s through creation of Micro Enterprise Development programs so as to develop need based skills so as to bridge the skills and accordingly train them.
- Play a key role in forming SHGs, connecting them to formal banks, and strengthening the capacity of groups and other stakeholders.
- Conducting audit of SHG groups and advise them to manage their finances properly.
- Developing capacity building programs so as to bring desirable changes in the lives of women through training and improving their abilities.
- Funding certain NGOs and coordinating with private agencies and state boards to provide them with additional funding.
- Developing leadership activities so as to build entrepreneurship skills among such women.
Objective
- Establishing connection with the Ministry of Women, Ministry of Health, and Ministry of Social Justice so as to provide a holistic effort.
- Setting up and funding SHG’s throughout India and making 10,000 women self reliant.
