E-waste Management
According to a report by Central Pollution Control Board, in 2018-19, India recovered just 10% of the electronic waste (e-waste) estimated to have been generated in the country, compared to 3.5 percent in 2017-18. According to the data, India created 708,445 tonne of e-waste in 2017-18 and 771,215 tonne the following year. The amount increased by 32% to 1,014,961 tonnes in 2019-20. In both years, however, actual collection was lower – 25,325 tonnes in 2017-18 and 78,281 tonnes in 2018-19.
These statistics shows a dismal picture of E-Waste management which is a major concern due to rapid growth of industries and urbanization. Hence, we at SEPP World Foundation have come together to build a proper roadmap so as to manage e-waste and its generation and disposal.
Project Roadmap
- Creating centres for collecting e-waste in industrial areas.
- Developing a platform so as to coordinate with producers so that they can update about their e-waste disposal
- Individual and bulk consumers can be educated through awareness activities.
- Creating garbage collection channels, such as with the informal sector and bulk consumers.
- Creating and running collecting points and channels.
- Gathering waste from a variety of locations, storing it in warehouses if necessary, and delivering it to recycling and treatment facilities
- Collaborating with stakeholders from across the value chain to create a holistic waste management strategy that goes beyond simply compliance.
Objective
- Establish connections with central and state ministries so that proper e-waste collection is possible.
- Coordinating with industry bodies like CIA so as to enhance the process for collection of e-waste.
