Newborn Care
According to data issued by the Registrar General of India, India's infant mortality rate (IMR) has decreased somewhat from 33 per 1,000 live births in 2017 to 32 in 2018; however, it is a very marginal decrease, and there is a lot of work to be done so as to reduce the infant mortality rate and take proper adequate care of a newborn.
In India, about 3.5 million babies are born prematurely, 1.7 million have birth abnormalities, and one million newborns are discharged from Special New-born Care Units each year (SNCUs). These babies are still at significant risk of dying, stunting, and developmental delays.
The first 28 days of a new-life born's are a vital window for preventing and managing maternal and newborn problems, which can be lethal otherwise; hence we at SEPP World Foundation have come together to build a proper roadmap so as to give proper newborn care to every infant.
Program Roadmap
- Demonstrate community-based home-based postnatal care, which includes modest interventions like thermal care and exclusive breastfeeding, which can enhance the survival of the baby dramatically.
- Focus on ending newborn deaths so as to improve the quality of care for newborns.
- Proper development interventions like preconception and antenatal care, proper care of the mother during childbirth, proper immediate newborn care, as well as proper care of mother and newborn post-birth.
Objective
- Establishing connections with the state authorities and the central ministries like the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Women and Child Development, Ministry of Social Justice so as to complete our projects, thereby helping the intended target beneficiaries.
- Connecting with local authorities so as to develop community-building programs and garner trust from the beneficiaries.
