Safety & Self Defence
According to the National Family Health Survey (NFHS) 2015-16 in India, 29.5 percent of women have suffered physical violence since the age of 15, and 21.2 percent have experienced physical violence in the last 12 months.
Furthermore, according to the latest National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report, an average of 87 rape cases were filed daily in India in 2019. (NCRB, 2020). In comparison to 2018, the number of cases of crime against women increased by 7%.
These statistics show a very dismal picture about the conditions of safety of women and hence we at SEPP World Foundation have come together to design a safety and self-defense roadmap for India.
The contribution of women to GDP in India is lower than the global average of 37 percent. Women also have a lot of bodily insecurities. In India, crimes against women account for 53.9 percent of all offences. In Delhi, the capital, 92 percent of women said they had been sexually or physically assaulted in public places.
